Gateway to Completion
Gateway is changing to Gateway to Completion under the new apprenticeship assessment reforms. TQUK's Proficient system provides everything you need across the assessment and delivery processes to ensure you know how to navigate this change.
Gateway to Completion
Gateway has not been removed, but it has changed.
Under the reform, gateway has changed to Gateway to Completion. This means it is now completed at the end of the apprenticeship assessment journey, rather than being used as an initial readiness check before assessment begins.
Gateway to Completion confirms that the required assessment journey has been completed and that the required evidence and declarations have been provided.
Explaining the Gateway to Completion
Gateway to Completion is the final confirmation stage in the apprenticeship assessment journey. It is used to confirm that the learner has completed the required assessment components and that any required supporting evidence, declarations, or documents have been provided.
This may include, depending on the standard and assessment plan:
- learner identification
- required on-programme qualifications or certificates
- evidence to support a resubmission, where applicable
- mandatory declarations or confirmation questions
- any other evidence required by the assessment plan.
Gateway to Completion must only be submitted once the assessment journey is complete and the required information has been added.
Understanding the Gateway to Completion
Gateway to Completion may include several required sections, depending on the apprenticeship standard and assessment plan.
This may include:
- learner identification
- uploading required qualifications or certificates
- evidence linked to a resubmission, where applicable
- mandatory confirmation questions
- required declarations
- supporting evidence required by the assessment plan.
Mandatory questions must be completed before Gateway to Completion can be submitted.
Using Proficient
Using the Proficient system, Gateway to Completion should be completed when all required assessment activity has been completed.
For the TQUK Together model, this means:
- all centre-assessed components have been completed
- learner results have been added
- feedback has been recorded where required
- all quality assurance activity has been completed
- assessment decisions have been confirmed
- any TQUK-assessed components have been completed
- required evidence and declarations are ready to submit.
Gateway to Completion should not be submitted before the learner’s assessment components have been completed.
Using Proficient for assessor centres
If an approved centre assessor is not available to select in Proficient, please check that they have been approved and set up correctly. If the assessor should be available but is not appearing, contact TQUK's EQA Team for support.
Learner details checklist
Centres and training providers are responsible for ensuring learner details are accurate on Proficient.
This includes checking:
- learner name
- date of birth
- standard
- specialism or pathway
- assessment model
- employer details, where required
- contact information
- any required supporting documentation.
Providing feedback to learners
TQUK will build assessment criteria into the Questions and Answers section within the results area on Proficient.
Centre assessors can use this section to record feedback and assessment decisions against the relevant criteria.
Centres may also use TQUK feedback document templates, where available. These can be completed and uploaded to support the learner record.
How to find support using Proficient
If you need support with Proficient, please contact TQUK through the usual support route.
When contacting TQUK, include as much detail as possible, such as:
- learner name or learner reference
- Standard name
- component name
- screenshot, where appropriate
- description of the issue
- any error messages received.
This will help the team review and respond quickly.
Submitting the Gateway to Completion
The system may allow Gateway to Completion to be submitted before all assessment activity has been completed. However, this should not be done.
The Assessment Bookings Team will monitor submissions and may reject Gateway to Completion submissions that have been completed incorrectly or submitted too early.
To avoid delays, please only submit Gateway to Completion once all required assessment components, results, and quality assurance activity have been completed.
