Remote Online Exams (Functional Skills)

Remote online exams allow learners and apprentices to complete assessments at a time that suits them, without the need for a physical invigilator or a fixed schedule.

Learners can log in when ready and complete their exam online in a secure, monitored environment. 

All exam activity is recorded and reviewed by TQUK for invigilation purposes, including: 

  • Live webcam footage 
  • Screen (desktop) recording 
  • Audio recording 

Before the exam 

Once an exam has been booked, the learner/apprentice will receive a booking confirmation email. This email includes: 

  • a link to the relevant exam platform 
  • the learner/apprentice’s login details 
  • important guidance to support exam preparation.

The important guidance documents outline the system requirements and provide instructions for setting up and taking a remotely invigilated exam. They also include information on what materials are permitted for each exam, and which devices can be used. 

This guidance must be reviewed by the learner/apprentice and training provider before the exam to ensure they are fully prepared. You can also find the guidance document here.

Preparing your device 

Full instructions for preparing your device for a remotely invigilated exam can be found in the booking confirmation email. These instructions should be read prior to the exam to ensure that the exam process runs smoothly. Learners/apprentices should ensure that: 

  • Google Chrome must be installed on their device and used for the exam 
  • they have downloaded the secure browser 
  • they have completed the System Check Test before the exam.

Practice and support 

After logging into the exam platform, learners/apprentices will have access to practice tests. These tests allow learners to familiarise themselves with the layout of the exam, practice using the tools and features, and they also reduce the risk of technical issues during the exam, allowing the learner/apprentice to focus on what matters most: applying their knowledge and hard work to gain a qualification.

Accessing the exam 

Learners/apprentices will receive their login details in the booking confirmation email that’s sent once an exam has been booked. After receiving it, they can log in with a few simple steps: 

  1. Log onto the platform. 
  2. Complete the System Check Test. 
  3. Click ‘Take Test’. 
  4. Follow the step-by-step instructions for: 
    1. ID verification 
    2. room sweep 
  5. Open the exam and showcase your learning.
